My work responds to my military experiences and the effects military service has on the social and political identity of a combat veteran. My experiences are analyzed through digital and analog collage methodologies. As traumatic events in our lives tears us apart and we are left with our in pieces and the impossible task of reassembling our lives, the process of collage is the most appropriate medium to demonstrate the effects trauma has on the human experience. Developing and responding to these experiences is the driving factor within my work. The information is based on material that falls outside of the traditional fine art community. This material transforms its presence, appearing as something else, while still portraying itself. Examining my past experiences allow for an outpour of energy that excavates the implications that serving today has on the military. Throughout the layers and processes, the viewer will see the historical record of actions, and reactions, allowing for the final voice to emerge. The final collaged piece presents a physical and emotional overwhelming image of a veteran experience.
